Step Up from Beginners: Expanding your Rope Skills

Step Up from Beginners: Expanding Your Rope Skills is a weekend intensive class with JoshuR (Berlin)

It is meant for advanced beginners and it will take you from wrapping & frictions to building patterns and creating dynamic shapes. It is designed for those who have already taken beginner lessons and are ready to deepen their rope practice. If you can confidently tie a single and double-column tie and have experience with basic harnesses, this is your next step.

It’s perfect for people who:
Know they love rope and want to explore deeper.
Want to refine technique and create intentional experiences.
Are curious about patterns, shaping the body, and emotional connection in rope play.

What will you learn

Advanced frictions—where and how to use them effectively.

Even tension —keeping your ties smooth and structured while building patterns.

Safety first!  Recognizing and avoiding common hazards.

Harness building—combining patterns into solid, functional designs.

Adapting ties to different bodies and unique needs.

Body mechanics—how joints move and how rope can guide or restrict motion.

Shaping & positioning—using rope to create striking forms.

Emotional connection —how different ties impact both the model and rigger emotionally.

Working with uplines —moving the body on the ground and even exploring semi-suspensions!

JoshuR

JoshuR is a rigger from Berlin who co hosts rope jams and play parties. He is also one of the Initiators of the Bondage Picnic in Berlin. He received his basic training at the Osada dojo there, but now combines a lot of different techniques and styles in his tying. Among others he learned from Haag, Gestalta, Soptic, Ropunava, and Ztella. His style is very intense, dynamic and body oriented (expect a lot of body manipulation and movement)

Vanina

Vanina is an intimacy coach, a shibari teacher, and event facilitator passionate about helping individuals and couples explore deeper connections, embrace their desires, and cultivate authentic intimacy. Shadow work and erotic shadow play are an integral part of her work. She received her shibari training in Berlin, and leans more towards Naka style, but also combines different approaches and methods of tying.
